What is SEO (Search Engine Optimization)?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies are a set of practices put in place to improve website traffic from search engines. They are particularly important for e-commerce platforms; If a company wants to succeed in selling a product online, they must make it easy for their customers to find them.
Why is this important?
When you think about how the internet is commonly used today, most people do not type a specific web address into their browser. Instead, they use search engines (like Google) to find what they are looking for. These search engines use specific factors to help them decide how to rank sites in search results. Websites that rank at the top have higher traffic, and an easier time gaining new customers.
What is the SEO Algorithm?
Only select employees working at search engine companies know for certain. It is constantly being tweaked, updated, and changed. The algorithm varies by search engines, however, the factors are generally the same across the board.
Here's a few:
Technical optimization is making a website faster, easier to crawl and understandable for search engines. This is done by optimizing your website load speeds, metadata information, navigational plan, site map, and by making sure that your site is secure.
Content optimization is making a website inform, guide, and lead visitors to purchase items from you. This is done by optimizing everything on the front end of your website (what your visitors see). This includes design, color, content length, tone of voice, readability, spelling and grammar, text hierarchy, image quality and more.
In 2007, having a mobile friendly website was not a factor that affected your SEO ranking. Today, as the number of people using their smartphones to access the internet continues to increase, having a mobile friendly website has become one of the most important factors in SEO rankings.
